Leah Schrubbe, PhD, MSc
Epidemiologist & Public Health Consultant
Rigorous epidemiological methods applied to global challenges
in maternal health, HIV prevention, and gender-based violence research.
About

Leah Schrubbe is a PhD epidemiologist and public health consultant with expertise in maternal-fetal health, HIV prevention and treatment, and the intersection of gender-based violence and infectious disease. Her doctoral research examined the role of intimate partner violence on antiretroviral therapy adherence among pregnant and breastfeeding women, and the downstream effects on mother-to-child transmission of HIV in sub-Saharan Africa.
Trained at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Leah has contributed to national and regional surveys, program evaluations, and randomized controlled trials across eastern and southern Africa. Her methods expertise spans statistical analysis in R, multilevel and longitudinal modeling, meta-analysis, and population-based survey design.
Through Leah Schrubbe Consulting, LLC, she partners with international organizations, academic institutions, and research groups to translate rigorous epidemiological evidence into actionable global health policy and programs. Current and past clients include the World Health Organization and leading public health research consortia.
Areas of Expertise

Research and evaluation in maternal-fetal medicine, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT), and reproductive health outcomes across low- and middle-income countries.
HIV / PMTCT Research
Antiretroviral therapy adherence, viral suppression, HIV acquisition risk, and care cascade engagement among pregnant and breastfeeding women in sub-Saharan Africa.
Gender-Based Violence & Health
Epidemiological analysis of intimate partner violence and sexual violence, their effects on HIV risk and treatment adherence, and systematic review and meta-analysis methodology.
Biostatistics & Data Analysis
Statistical analysis in R: multilevel/mixed-effects models, longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, meta-analysis, and individual participant data (IPD) pooled analyses.
Global Health Program Evaluation
Design and evaluation of global health programs including randomized controlled trials, cluster-randomized trials, and quasi-experimental designs in low-resource settings.
Survey Methods & Analysis
